So, lately I have been wondering about what masculinity is supposed to look like? Mainly because I believe the Lord told me to speak on it some. I don’t know where, or how, but I pray as a woman speaking on this topic I have the courage.

Lately I have been hearing a lot about Andrew Tate and his view on being the “Alpha Male.” I listened to his podcast on youtube and will say that he made some valid points on depression and dealing with life in general. I will say though that as a Christian his viewpoints on being a man means saying and doing whatever makes you happy are altogether a false worldview. He tried to bring up history in general as an example. But, when I look at the heroes of old I don’t look at how society used to be, which by the way was a very controlling society as to how women are supposed to be. I look at figures like Moses, “the most humble man on earth.” I also look at figures like Joseph who trusted the Lord and became a grand leader, and Jesus who stooped to the ground and said to the woman caught in adultery, “Your sins are forgiven.” When I look into these characters I see leadership, bravery, protection of those around them. I also see humility, not using their position of authority to get what they want, but to serve those around them.

Now, in history there has been some amazing women figures, but only a few. The rest don’t have their stories told, but their stories shine through the amazing children that they raised. When I look into scripture I see figures like Esther who was willing to lay her life down for her people. Deborah, who at the time was the prophet of Israel, yet told the people to ask the king about the war at the time. Only when the king was a coward did she step up and tell the people what to do. I also look at Mary, who at such a young age knew that the world order of things was being turned upside down when she sang her song of worship. So, when I look at these women of God I see humility, grace, a willingness to lead and submit, which takes even more strength to do. I also see courage and eyes that see more into God’s kingdom, than just the world.

So, a quick recap… being masculine is not about getting whatever you want, and saying whatever you want. It is about being a leader, protecter and provider. Being a woman does not just mean being a lady that sits around and waits for a guy, or the most common way of thinking that “We don’t need men, we can do whatever we want.” Being a woman means being full of grace, life giving in what she does, willing to submit but also lead when the occasion calls for it, even though leadership isn’t just position, but how we influence people everyday.

These are just some of my current thoughts on the different strengths of different roles. Be blessed and pray into the truth.
